The Mining and Minerals Regulatory Authority (MMRA) has issued a formal notice of intention to cancel mining licences following a nationwide compliance audit covering 2020–2025. All non-compliant licence holders have been granted a 30-day window from April 13, 2026, to settle outstanding royalties, submit statutory reports, and regularize their operations. Failure to meet these requirements will result in immediate licence cancellation under the Mines and Minerals Act, 2023, with the Authority emphasizing that unpaid fees remain a recoverable public debt even if a licence is revoked.
